Manufacturers and consumers have faced significant challenges in recent years, grappling with supply chain disruptions that necessitate innovative solutions to aid consumers amid unpredictable conditions. The current issues have led to a decline in chassis production, resulting in limited availability of new chassis on dealership lots.
As businesses and fleet owners strive to progress, broaden their service offerings, and expand their teams, they still require appropriate trucks and equipment to operate effectively and securely.
Similar to teams nationwide, we are exploring strategies to better cater to the needs of contractors and fleet managers who depend on our equipment to accomplish their tasks.
Understanding Supply Chain Challenges
Multiple factors are influencing the supply chain, leading to ongoing difficulties with ordering, including shortages of parts, chassis, and microchips, along with rising material costs and a convergence of challenges.
1. Part Shortages
Manufacturers are currently dealing with part shortages. Demand for components surged last year as COVID restrictions lifted, while hiring needs increased amidst a reduced workforce. As a result, it has become difficult to manufacture and deliver critical parts, leaving some trucks or trailers completed but waiting on essential components, much to the dismay of customers.
2. Chassis and Microchip Shortages
All automotive manufacturers are experiencing chassis shortages. Since 65% of our operations depend on chassis, both light-duty and heavy-duty trucks are being delayed significantly. This situation isn’t due to OEMs’ shortcomings but primarily stems from a microchip deficit.
3. Rising Material Costs
Costs related to operating a business are on the rise, affecting everything from employee wages and benefits to the acquisition of raw materials and maintenance services. This escalation is fueled by increased demand, limited supply, and the impact of the ongoing War in Ukraine, which has driven up prices for commodities such as minerals, oil, and food.
4. A Convergence of Challenges
The current landscape is frustrating for both manufacturers and consumers. Our upfitting program is a strategic response to this situation. Rather than facing isolated issues, we find ourselves confronting a unique combination of challenges. Through adaptability and responsiveness, we have identified temporary solutions to navigate these complexities.
A Temporary Solution
The upfitting program at Monroe repurposes existing chassis, transforming them into ideal work trucks. This approach allows customers to capitalize on their previous investments rather than purchasing a new chassis and undergoing the standard upfitting process.
The procedure is straightforward: first, contact the Monroe team to discuss your desired upfit options. Next, arrange a time to drop off your truck. Once you leave it with our skilled team, they will complete the necessary modifications. Together, you will agree on a pickup time, and once the updates are finished, you can collect your revitalized work truck and get back to work!
