Introducing Gina Jones: FIT DRIVER’s Professional Truck Driver for May
Gina Jones has been traveling the roads alongside her husband, Steve, for 14 years. Originally earning her Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at 50, Gina transitioned to trucking as a second career after spending 28 years in her first profession.
The Catalyst for Change
After her youngest child enlisted in the Army, Gina felt inspired to embrace new challenges and decided to team up with her husband as an over-the-road driver.
A Journey of Achievements
Since starting her career in trucking, Gina has received numerous accolades, including 1.6 million accident-free miles, roles as both Werner Road Team Captain and ATA America’s Road Team Captain, participation in Operation Freedom Fleet, membership on the TA Safety Advisory Panel, and the 2024 TA Citizen Driver Award.
Health and Safety on the Road
Gina resonates with other FIT DRIVERS in her belief that health and safety go hand in hand. She emphasizes that maintaining good health not only promotes safety but also boosts her quality of life, making her feel better overall. She is particularly aware of the risks of medical emergencies while on the road, whether during driving or on a 10-hour rest break.
Dedication to a Healthy Lifestyle
Aiming to prevent unfortunate events, Gina prioritizes exercise and healthier food choices. To keep their diet in check, she often prepares meals for herself and Steve while traveling, which is both healthier and more financially manageable. She places great value on family, stating that staying healthy allows her to enjoy quality time with her loved ones, especially her grandkids.
Support for Military Veterans
Alongside her driving duties and family commitments, Gina supports military veterans. In August 2025, she completed the 50 Mile March to raise funds for veterans in need and is training for the 2026 march. Her dedication saw her rucking 50 miles—carrying a weighted pack—from Lincoln, Nebraska, to Omaha in just 22 hours. This nonprofit foundation addresses issues of homelessness and mental health among local veterans, providing Gina with motivation to stay fit on the road.
Staying Accountable
Gina reflects on the importance of finding personal motivation, stating, “Behind every safe mile is a series of smart decisions.” To support her fitness journey, she consults with a coach weekly to hold herself accountable for her dietary and exercise choices.
