Train Passenger Hospitalized After Collision with Semi-Truck in Wilmette
A train passenger was admitted to the hospital on Thursday afternoon following a collision between a Metra train and a semi-truck at a crossing in Wilmette, per reports from Metra and the Wilmette Fire Department.
According to a spokesperson from Metra, the incident occurred around 2:46 p.m. on May 7, when outbound train No. 337 hit the truck at the Linden Avenue crossing near Green Bay Road.
Officials from the Village of Wilmette stated that one passenger on the train sustained a minor injury and was transported to a nearby hospital. The truck driver managed to exit the vehicle prior to the collision.
Reports indicate that the semi-truck was carrying a commercial street scraper on a trailer and got stuck on the tracks due to its low height. The driver had reportedly called 911 before the train’s arrival, which struck the trailer, detaching it from the main vehicle.
Although several other passengers reported minor injuries, officials confirmed that none of these required hospitalization. The incident caused a halt in train services on Metra’s UP North line for approximately four hours, with operations resuming around 7 p.m.
