2025 Driver of the Year Award Announcement
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Women In Trucking Association (WIT) has named Kathy Blaies, a professional carhauler with United Road, as the recipient of the 2025 Driver of the Year Award, sponsored by Walmart.

“Kathy was chosen for her significant contributions to the trucking sector, her steadfast commitment to safety, and her dedication to mentoring, especially women in the industry,” stated Jennifer Hedrick, WIT’s president and CEO.

Kathy’s career in trucking began with car hauling. Initially discouraged about her prospects in the industry, she surpassed expectations, gaining respect for her exceptional driving abilities and her willingness to assist others. She frequently mentors newcomers, guiding them through the challenges of car hauling and helping them achieve success.
Outstanding Achievements
Beyond her driving skills, Blaies’ professionalism and leadership have garnered her several accolades, according to a WIT press release. With over one million safe driving miles under her belt, she is a four-time winner of the Gold Elite Award and a two-time recipient of the Damage-Free Elite Award from United Road, highlighting her consistent commitment to excellence.

Her exemplary performance has been recognized by peers and company leaders. The announcement was made during the Salute to Women Behind the Wheel event at the Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) in Louisville, KY, which celebrates female commercial drivers for their contributions and successes.

Sponsored by Walmart, the annual Driver of the Year Award aims to acknowledge the achievements of female professional drivers leading the industry in safety while enhancing the public image of trucking. Ryan McDaniel, Walmart’s senior vice president of transportation, stated, “Walmart is proud to sponsor this award. Kathy Blaies is not just a driver but also a leader, mentor, and role model.
