Incident Involving Two Girls in Refrigerated Truck
LINDON, Utah (KSTU) – Two girls were discovered inside a refrigerated truck following an accident on a Utah highway.
Their brother, who was operating the vehicle, has been charged with child abuse.
The Utah Highway Patrol is looking into the crash that occurred on Interstate 15.
According to officials, the truck was approaching slow-moving traffic when it collided with a minivan due to a failure to stop in time.
Because this incident involved a commercial truck, authorities summoned a truck inspector who observed something unusual.
“He captured a photo of the truck’s rear and noticed a slight gap in the door, through which he spotted a pair of eyes. That’s when he realized we had more serious issues at hand,” remarked Lt. Clay Morgan of the Utah Highway Patrol.
Scott, the driver aged 28, acknowledged that his two younger half-sisters were in the back. The girls, aged 12 and 14, are homeschooled but were traveling to Salt Lake City for a test and to assist a family member expecting twins.
The probable cause statement indicated that the girls had been in the refrigerated trailer, set to 30 degrees Fahrenheit, since leaving Huntington, approximately two hours before the crash occurred near Lindon. Officers noted that due to how the door was secured, the girls had no way of escaping the trailer.
Scott has been arrested on charges of aggravated child abuse, and the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities confirmed that neither girl sustained any injuries.
