Truck Overturns while Carrying Nuclear Equipment
Karwar: A multi-wheel truck transporting equipment for the forthcoming Units 5 and 6 at the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) in Kaiga Generating Station overturned near Hartuga village, approximately 10 km from Kaiga, on Thursday evening.
Initial reports suggest that the driver lost control while navigating a curve, despite the vehicle reportedly moving at a slow speed of under 10 km/h. Eyewitnesses indicated that the heavily loaded truck tipped over with a significant crash, alarming local residents.
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. However, the overturned vehicle and its cargo obstructed the roadway, complicating efforts for officials focused on clearing the route and recovering the equipment.
The machinery, intended for nuclear reactor construction, was being transported from Northern India with stringent security measures in place. About two weeks prior, the same consignment had passed through Karwar town, raising concerns among the public.
Residents had previously expressed their anxiety regarding the passage of such heavy equipment through city roads and along the Kaiga–Karwar route, fearing potential damage to the roads.
Senior police officials arrived at the site to evaluate the situation and supervise subsequent actions. Efforts are currently underway to remove the truck and restore normal traffic flow in the area.
