Tragic Accident in Unnao: Three Burnt Alive
Kanpur: A tragic collision between a mini-truck and a dumper in the Bangarmau area of Unnao resulted in the deaths of three individuals who were burnt alive, as reported by the police on Wednesday morning. The victims included the drivers of both vehicles and a cleaner, while another helper was able to escape unscathed.
Details of the Incident
The driver of the mini-truck, Mahipal (27), along with his nephew Sonu, who worked as a cleaner, were on their way to Kanpur from Muzaffarnagar, transporting chemicals. The accident occurred near Murray Company turn on the Hardoi-Unnao roadway when a sand-filled dumper barreled into their vehicle from the opposite direction. Both vehicles were reportedly moving at speeds between 80-90 km per hour, leading to a devastating head-on crash.
Impact and Escape
According to ASP city Prem Chandra, the force of the collision was so severe that it sparked a fire in both vehicles. Sonu managed to escape by leaping out, while Mahipal, the dumper driver Pawan Yadav (29), and the dumper’s cleaner Sumit (20) tragically lost their lives to the flames.
Local Response
Upon hearing the explosion, nearby residents rushed to the scene, discovering Mahipal, Pawan, and Sumit ensnared in their burning vehicles. Sonu was found with an injured leg, sitting beside the road. Despite efforts to rescue the trapped individuals, the intensifying fire rendered these attempts futile.
Fire Brigade Intervention
Firefighters took two hours to extinguish the flames and recover the charred bodies. The chemicals onboard the mini-truck accelerated the spread of the fire significantly. Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion’s noise was audible from half a kilometer away, with flames licking up to 10-15 feet high.
Aftermath and Traffic Disruptions
The police have sent the bodies for postmortem examinations and have notified the families of the deceased. The accident resulted in a significant traffic jam extending one kilometer on both sides of the road, causing a disruption for nearly two hours.
Restoration of Traffic
ASP Prem Chandra stated that the damaged vehicles have since been cleared from the roadway, allowing traffic to resume normal operations. Meanwhile, the injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
