LMPD states that the case remains an active death investigation.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A woman has passed away in West Louisville following an incident on Thursday morning.

According to the Louisville Metro Police, officers were dispatched after receiving a report about a person lying down near 26th Street and Muhammad Ali Boulevard. The officers were later canceled by EMS, who had arrived on the scene and transported the woman to the University of Louisville Hospital, where she was declared deceased.

Upon investigation, authorities determined that the woman had sustained injuries due to contact with equipment on a garbage truck.

In response to the incident, Louisville Metro Public Works issued a statement to WHAS11 News on Saturday:

Louisville Metro Public Works, along with its Solid Waste Management team, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of an individual following an occurrence during routine alley cleaning in the 2500 block of Cedar Street. Such tasks are a regular part of their operations, taking place multiple times daily. As per standard protocol, the employees involved have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is conducted.
