SAN ANTONIO – A police officer from Selma has received counseling after being seen fleeing a rollover accident on the North Side last month, leaving behind firearms, ammunition, and various police gear.
Officer TommyLee Macias was injured in the crash on June 17 at the intersection of Loop 1604 and Judson Road, but he sought medical assistance independently, as confirmed by Selma Police Department Chief Darrell Volz to KSAT Investigates.
According to a crash report, a witness claimed that Macias’ truck drove through a “Do Not Enter” sign at Judson Road around 2:30 a.m., resulting in a Dodge Ram pickup rolling over before landing back on its wheels.
Another witness reported seeing a man exit the damaged vehicle and flee the scene.
Police found two guns inside the truck, including Macias’ issued firearm, along with police uniforms, body armor, a wallet containing a driver’s license, and several boxes of ammunition.
The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) informed a supervisor from the Selma Police Department, who then took possession of the police items. The other items, including a second gun and ammunition, were stored in SAPD’s property room, as indicated by the crash report.
The wrecked truck was towed to the Growdon Pound. Chief Volz mentioned that Macias sought medical care due to his injuries and may have been disoriented after the vehicle rolled multiple times. He noted that there were no signs of alcohol involvement, but Macias was counseled for leaving his equipment at the accident scene. As of now, Macias has not faced criminal charges and has been with Selma PD since 2022, according to Texas Commission on Law Enforcement records.
