Bus Crash Involving North Allegheny Marching Band
On Friday evening, two school buses carrying the North Allegheny marching band were involved in an accident on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Plum while en route to an away football game.
Following the incident, Superintendent Brendan Hyland communicated with all high school parents, stating that though there were no visible injuries, students had been assessed by Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
“Out of an abundance of caution, six students were taken to nearby hospitals with minor injuries, and two adults who were evaluated opted to go to the hospital as well,” he explained. “All other students were treated and released.”
Hyland assured that parents of the transported students were “promptly contacted.” Additionally, the Transportation Department informed the parents of all students on both buses about the situation, he mentioned.
According to TribLive news partner WTAE, news footage captured by a helicopter showed two buses and the North Allegheny High School band equipment truck parked at the Oakmont Plum Service Plaza on the turnpike, with several students near the vehicles.
The North Allegheny football team was competing against Norwin High School that night. The team had already arrived at the stadium when the crash occurred around 5:45 p.m.
State police have yet to provide further details regarding the incident. Hyland expressed gratitude toward all responders, band volunteers, and district band personnel, saying, “Thank you for your concern and support.”
