VIDEO: A recent transaction involving one of the tanker trucks from the Hinesburg Fire Department has funded essential equipment upgrades for local firefighters.
This sale enabled the fire station to purchase five new headsets, which Chief Prescott Nadeau stated were urgently needed by his department.
“These headsets are intended for the fire truck. They are wireless, which aids in reducing background noise significantly, especially when the sirens are blaring,” remarked Nadeau.
The truck fetched $135,000 at sale—$50,000 more than the initial asking price. Nadeau emphasized that this transaction enhances firefighter safety while alleviating financial pressure on taxpayers.
“We received far more than we anticipated, allowing us to reinvest that into safety gear. This not only protects 100 firefighters but also helps lower the tax burden on our community,” Nadeau stated.
The Hinesburg station collaborated with Garage, a firm that specializes in selling fire truck equipment across the country.
“A common challenge faced by smaller volunteer fire departments is the lack of budget for expensive fire trucks, which can reach costs of up to $2 million. Therefore, these tend to be our primary customers,” explained Andrew Purdy, a representative from Garage.
Nadeau noted that partnering with Garage simplified the sales process and ensured their truck reached a fire department in need, specifically one located in Pennsylvania.
