On Wednesday, Freightliner Trucks unveiled its “Frameworks” initiative aimed at simplifying and accelerating truck upfitting for equipment manufacturers.
“We’re aiming to address specific gaps in the market,” stated Dave Hames, the general manager of marketing and strategy. “It’s crucial for us to partner with truck equipment manufacturers to enhance Freightliner’s presence in vocational markets, alongside its established strength in on-highway sectors.”
The program was officially launched during a press conference preceding the National Truck Equipment Association’s Work Truck Show, which attracts body and equipment manufacturers as well as those who install them on truck chassis. The event will continue through Friday at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.
“Frameworks formalizes our current practices,” Hames explained. This initiative is designed to strengthen Freightliner’s relationship with upfitters during the planning, construction, and installation phases of truck bodies and equipment, aiming to minimize errors and delays.
“We want to eliminate the typical blame game that sometimes occurs between truck manufacturers, body manufacturers, and customers when issues arise,” he noted.
The Frameworks program will encompass educational resources to help upfitters become familiar with Freightliner’s chassis, SmartPlex electrical system, and various frame rail, crossmember, power take-off solutions, and exhaust configurations.
A “visibility” package will provide real-time updates on the manufacturing and delivery stages of their trucks, enabling better planning and customer communication. This is expected to alleviate buyer frustrations related to delivery timelines and improve overall efficiency, ultimately leading to cost savings.
“By understanding the planned upfit, we can arrange the frame, electrical systems, and other components proactively to prevent issues later,” Hames added. “We view this sector as an integral part of our manufacturing process.”
Upfitters wishing to participate can gain dedicated access to the program and may qualify for financing. While there is no obligation to engage further after enrollment, Freightliner anticipates that participants will recognize and appreciate the program’s advantages.
Frameworks offers various membership tiers with distinct benefits, according to Mary Aufdemberg, director of product marketing. Truck equipment manufacturers interested in joining may contact their Freightliner vocational sales manager or email frameworks@daimler.com for inquiries.
