Cherry Valley Firefighters Enhance Capability with New Truck
CHERRY VALLEY, Ark. (KAIT) – A newly acquired, compact fire truck is enabling Cherry Valley firefighters to access tight spaces that larger trucks cannot, potentially improving emergency response times.
Improved Maneuverability
Captain Tyler Walls noted that this smaller vehicle offers a significant advantage during emergencies, particularly in areas where larger engines struggle to navigate.
Benefits of the New Truck
“Many locations here have narrow roads and sharp curves, making it difficult for our larger engines to get through,” Walls explained. “This truck is very helpful in reaching all areas more easily.”
Strategic Purchase
The department acquired the truck at an auction as a way to alleviate strain on its existing fleet, which is experiencing heavy usage. Walls highlighted that this new addition will help reduce wear and tear on other vehicles.
Diverse Emergency Responses
The new truck has already been utilized in emergency responses and is available to assist other departments when needed. It is equipped to handle medical emergencies, accidents, hazardous material incidents, and rescue operations.
Additional Equipment Acquisitions
The city has also recently secured jaws of life equipment through a Rural Community Grant from Arkansas, along with 14 SCV 8 bottles for breathing apparatuses, enabling firefighters to attend to structural fires and hazmat situations more effectively.
Future Plans for Improvement
Walls mentioned that the department intends to seek more grants to fund additional equipment, aiming to improve the department’s ISO rating and enhance staffing levels. With 974 fire departments in Arkansas depending on volunteers, having advanced equipment is crucial for coordinating effective responses.
