ASE Discontinues Five Tests by End of 2025

LEESBURG, Va. — The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) will be ceasing five of its tests on December 31.

Urgency for Certification

Matt Shepanek, vice president of credential testing programs at ASE, stated, “Individuals wishing to gain or renew their certifications in these areas should take action now, and definitely by December 31.” He emphasized that ASE is regularly requested by industry partners to develop new credential tests and that retiring lower-volume tests will allow them to allocate resources toward these new initiatives.

Tests Being Phased Out

  • Test E1: Truck Equipment Installation and Repair
  • Test E2: Electrical/Electronic Systems Installation and Repair
  • Test E3: Auxiliary Power Systems Installation and Repair
  • Test P4: General Motors Parts Consultant
  • Test X1: Undercar Specialist Exhaust Systems

Commitment to Stakeholders

ASE indicated that they are dedicated to notifying all users and systems affected by these changes accordingly. The organization remains focused on offering quality certifications and will adapt its programs to align with industry needs.

End of Availability

Both certifications and recertifications for these five tests will no longer be available after 2025.

Continuous Evaluation

According to Dave Johnson, ASE president and CEO, “We regularly collaborate with transportation industry leaders to assess the necessity for new and existing certifications to better serve both consumers and the industry.” He added that they are also in the midst of updating certain automotive series tests and are planning to introduce certifications aimed at advanced vehicle safety and security systems.
