Unhealthy Lifestyle of Truck Drivers in India
Truck drivers in India often lead unhealthy lives, facing mental and physical challenges due to long hours away from their families, extended working hours, and exposure to unsanitary conditions. They handle 65% of India’s freight traffic, predominantly through road transport. Enhancing their lifestyles is crucial for sustaining economic growth.
Healthcare Initiative by Shell Lubricants India
To improve healthcare access for these essential contributors to the Indian economy, Shell Lubricants India has launched free health camps for truck drivers and mechanics starting from 26 April 2018. These camps are being conducted at Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar in Delhi, focusing on promoting the importance of regular health check-ups for drivers and their impact on driving performance.
Inaugural Event and Participation
The health camp in Delhi was inaugurated by Ms. Mansi Madan Tripathy, Country Head of Shell Lubricants India Cluster, and Mr. Gareth Flood, Chief Marketing Officer of Shell Lubricants India. This camp is the first of five planned to take place in different locations across the country. Over 200 individuals participated on the first day, and the initiative will run for a month, offering free health evaluations, including assessments of BMI, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels, all conducted by trusted medical professionals.
Shell’s Commitment to Driver Health
This initiative by Shell reflects their dedication to the comprehensive development of their driving partners and mechanics, fostering a safer driving environment. The health camps aim to address the health requirements of truck drivers, enhancing their well-being and driving capabilities, potentially reducing the risk of accidents.
Message from Shell India
Commenting on the program, Ms. Mansi Madan Tripathy stated, “At Shell India, ensuring road safety is crucial for everyone. We strive to not only provide exceptional service to our partners but also to serve society at large. This initiative celebrates the often-overlooked heroes who tirelessly deliver quality service. We are hopeful that participants will find these camps beneficial, leading to regular health check-ups.”
Expanding the Initiative Nationwide
Shell is extending an invitation to truck drivers, mechanics, and their families to join health camps in Agra, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Ambala, as part of their effort to raise awareness about the significance of health and safety on the road.
