The Premier of South Australia has stated that the state has “dodged a bullet,” as no COVID-19 cases have been identified among individuals currently in quarantine due to interactions with infected truck drivers.
Key Points:
Over 500 individuals are in quarantine due to five truck drivers.
However, the Premier noted that more than 90% of the tests conducted thus far have returned negative results.
The AFL preliminary final at Adelaide Oval is set to proceed with a capacity of 50%.
The state’s recent tension arose when it was disclosed that five drivers who later tested positive for the virus had traveled from the eastern states within the last two weeks.
Currently, over 500 contacts of these drivers or individuals who visited tier 1 and 2 exposure sites are in quarantine.
Premier Steven Marshall mentioned that the majority of these individuals have been tested, all yielding negative results so far.
“I believe we have once again dodged a bullet here in South Australia,” he stated.
On Saturday, new tier 1 exposure sites, including the Cross Keys Hotel at Cavan and the Cavan Hotel at Dry Creek, were added, requiring attendees to quarantine with their households.
Despite the absence of QR check-ins during the exposure timeframe at Cavan Hotel, Premier Marshall expressed satisfaction with overall QR compliance, stating, “There’s a bit of variance across the state at the moment … we need to remind people to follow the guidelines.”
He emphasized the importance of swiftly vaccinating as many individuals as possible in South Australia and was pleased with the current vaccination rates.
