Truck Driver Charged in Fatal Montana Crash
In light of the controversy surrounding Indian-origin truck driver Harjinder Singh, who caused a fatal accident in Florida due to a wrong U-turn, another incident involving a migrant driver has come to light. This case involves Sarbjeet Parmar, who has been charged with negligent homicide in relation to a 2024 traffic accident.
Sarbjeet Parmar, 39, hailing from Buckley, Washington, has also been charged with five counts of felony criminal endangerment. While reports did not confirm his nationality, his name suggests a potential Indian origin.
During his arraignment, Parmar did not enter a guilty plea, and Judge David Carter established a $10,000 bond. As part of the bail conditions, Parmar is required to surrender his passport, according to local media.
The accident occurred on December 22, 2024, when Parmar was driving a commercial truck with a trailer. The vehicle veered into the median at mile marker 431, tipped onto its side, and crossed into oncoming traffic, as reported by KTVQ.
The truck collided with a Volkswagen passenger car and a Chevrolet Suburban. Unfortunately, Kevin Wilkerson, the 56-year-old driver of the Suburban from Laurel, lost his life in the crash, while three passengers in his vehicle and two individuals in the Volkswagen sustained injuries.
Investigations conducted by the Montana Highway Patrol revealed that Parmar had manipulated the Electronic Logbook Device in his truck. This device monitors the off-duty hours of commercial drivers, and prosecutors claim it was “manually manipulated.” Consequently, it was found that Parmar had not adhered to the required 10 hours of off-duty rest during the trip.
Initially, Parmar attributed the accident to strong winds. However, the investigation found no evidence supporting that claim, instead indicating that the crash was “consistent with that of a drowsy driver.”
