A 69-year-old garbage truck driver has passed away in the hospital following an early morning accident involving two trucks in a small town west of Melbourne on Monday.

Authorities indicated that thick fog was hindering visibility as both garbage trucks traveled west along Mt Wallace-Ballark Road at Mount Wallace around 5:30 AM.
During the crash, one of the drivers was instructing the other, which led to the collision that left the 69-year-old man from Melton South in a critical condition.
He was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital on Monday with life-threatening injuries and tragically passed away there on Wednesday evening.
The other driver involved, a 56-year-old man from Melton West, did not sustain any injuries in the incident.
According to Moorabool Shire, the deceased was an employee of a waste contractor working with the council. A spokesperson conveyed the council’s condolences to the family and friends of the driver.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the crash, with authorities preparing a report for the coroner. WorkSafe is also looking into the cause of the collision.
