Illegal Immigrant Truck Driver Arrested for Fatal Crash
An undocumented truck driver has been detained and is facing deportation after reportedly making an illegal U-turn in Florida, which led to a collision that resulted in three fatalities.
Charges Filed Against the Driver
Harjinder Singh, who entered the U.S. unlawfully and acquired a commercial driver’s license in California, faces three counts of vehicular homicide linked to the deadly incident on Tuesday, as stated by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV).
Government Response
“This is a tragic situation that could have been avoided,” commented White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson in an email to Fox News Digital. “Individuals without legal authorization to be in the U.S. should not be permitted to hold commercial licenses.”
Details of the Incident
While driving a semi-truck with a trailer along the Florida Turnpike in Fort Pierce, Singh allegedly made an unauthorized U-turn in a restricted area, causing the trailer to jackknife and collide with a minivan. This crash resulted in the deaths of all three occupants of the minivan, according to officials.
Political Implications and Reactions
Jackson criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom’s immigration policies, stating, “His support for illegal immigrants has serious consequences, yet he continues to prioritize them over American citizens.”
Singh’s Background and Current Status
Officials believe Singh entered the U.S. via the Mexico border in 2018. He remains in custody on state vehicular homicide charges as well as immigration-related offenses. An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer has been issued against him, according to a post from the White House Rapid Response account.
Official Statements
Dave Kerner, Executive Director of the FLHSMV, stated, “The reckless actions of the defendant while operating a commercial truck are both alarming and criminal. Three lives have been lost due to his negligence, leaving countless friends and family members to grapple with this tragedy.”
In California, a law enacted in 2013 allows residents, regardless of immigration status, to obtain a driver’s license.
