To address the shortage of drivers, the German School of Truck Driving (GSTD) was established as a vocational training center in Kampala, Uganda.

Challenges Facing the German Trucking Sector

The German trucking industry is a key component of Europe’s transportation system, dealing with substantial volumes of goods. However, it is grappling with critical issues such as driver shortages and increasing operational costs.

Economic Significance

Despite these challenges, this sector remains vital for Germany’s economy, marked by a record number of registered trucks.

Establishment of GSTD

To mitigate driver shortages, the German School of Truck Driving (GSTD) was established as a vocational training institute in Kampala, Uganda.

Training Focus

The institute specializes in training professional truck drivers while also offering German language courses, thereby preparing East African individuals for careers in Germany’s logistics industry.

Program Objectives

GSTD’s training programs combine essential driving skills with language proficiency to meet European industry standards and expectations from employers.

Benefits of the German Trucking Sector

The German trucking industry offers attractions such as competitive salaries, strong job security stemming from driver shortages, and comprehensive social benefits like health insurance and retirement contributions.

Opportunities for Foreign Workers

This sector also provides avenues for foreign workers to secure legal employment and settle in Germany, along with opportunities for career advancement. GSTD aims to ensure that Ugandan truck drivers can access these benefits.
