Truckers Spreading Christmas Cheer on the Road

Even though truckers spend most of the year on the road—including during the holiday season—they can still spread a little Christmas spirit.

Some drivers opt to decorate the outside of their trucks with festive lights, while others prefer a more understated approach with dashboard displays and a Christmas tree in the passenger seat.

For Frankie Faulk, who has been a lease-operator for Prime Inc. for two years, adding decorations to her truck provides comfort while she’s away from her kids and family during the festive season.

“I decorated my truck for the first time last Christmas,” Faulk shared. “The positive reactions I received encouraged me to keep it going. Seeing others happy makes me happy too.” From Lumberton, North Carolina, she dressed her truck with red tinsel and candy canes, aligning with the color of her 2020 International truck named Ruby, inspired by a proverb: “She is more precious than rubies.”

Rene Anderson, a seasoned driver with 22 years of experience, took a brighter approach this year by embellishing her 2012 Peterbilt 587 with colorful lights around the grille and windshield. “I live in my truck and I love to decorate for major holidays, but Christmas is my favorite,” Anderson expressed. Her lights are powered via extension cords connected to a 3,000-watt inverter, allowing for outdoor-safe cords on the grille and regular ones inside.

Decoration isn’t limited to the truck’s exterior, as Aschanti Abernethy, who is originally from Germany and now based in Florida, has a Christmas tree in her 2019 Volvo VNL. She noted that it makes her truck feel “homey” during the holidays. With around two-and-a-half years of driving experience for Bulmaks Inc., Abernethy cherishes Christmas and finds joy in celebrating the season while on the road.

If you have a decorated truck that you’d like to showcase, feel free to share a photo!
