Daimler India Opens Healthcare Clinic for Drivers

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, launched a Physiotherapy and Primary Healthcare Clinic on April 2, 2026. Located in Sangagiri, the clinic aims to serve truck drivers and underserved populations, and was established in collaboration with Smile Foundation, a nonprofit organization active in 27 Indian states.

This clinic is projected to benefit around 13,500 individuals, with over 70 percent of those coming from the local trucking sector. Sangagiri is a significant trucking hub in Tamil Nadu, making it an ideal site for enhancing healthcare access for long-haul drivers who often encounter challenges in obtaining regular medical attention.

The clinic will provide a range of services, including physiotherapy, outpatient consultations, vision assessments, preventive health screenings, and referral support for advanced medical treatments. Operating six days a week, it will be staffed by doctors, physiotherapists, optometrists, and community mobilizers, utilizing a digital patient management system for improved monitoring and continuity of care.

This initiative aims to tackle health issues frequently reported by commercial drivers, such as musculoskeletal disorders, fatigue, and lifestyle-related ailments. According to industry data, many drivers postpone seeking healthcare until their conditions deteriorate. DICV and Smile Foundation aim to change this trend through early intervention and preventive health programs.

Michael Moebius, President and Chief Procurement & Supply Chain Officer at DICV, emphasized the link between driver health and road safety, highlighting that healthier drivers lead to better safety outcomes for all road users. Santanu Mishra, Co-founder of Smile Foundation, called this initiative a crucial step in closing the healthcare access gaps for the logistics workforce.

DICV manufactures and distributes trucks and buses under the BharatBenz brand from its production facility in Oragadam, near Chennai, and exports to over 60 markets in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Meanwhile, Smile Foundation claims to benefit more than 2.5 million children and families each year through diverse programs in education, healthcare, livelihood support, and women’s empowerment.
