Start Your Trucking Career with Adam Cox
If you’re interested in launching a career in the trucking sector, look no further than Adam Cox and his business, Cariboo Driver Training.
A Journey into Teaching
Adam Cox, who began his career in the trucking industry in 2013, discovered his passion for teaching when he started training newcomers in driving. Now at 28 years old, he found himself in a position to share his knowledge when his previous employer closed down. “I really enjoyed teaching, and with people reaching out for training, I decided to continue. Why not?” he explained.
Establishing Cariboo Driver Training
Cox officially launched Cariboo Driver Training in April, though his experience in training drivers dates back to 2016. He is the sole provider of semi-truck driving instruction in Williams Lake. He offers Class 1 training for semi-trucks with trailers and Class 3 training for those without trailers. Additionally, as demand grows, Cox hopes to include Class 2 training in the future, complete with air brake endorsement.
Commitment to Student Success
“I take great pleasure in seeing students embark on their careers,” said Cox. “It brings me joy when a student passes, and I spot them driving a truck later. It’s a testament to the good work I’ve done.”
Training Requirements for New Drivers
To enter the driving field, aspiring drivers must first take a learner’s test with ICBC and obtain air brake certification. Once that’s completed, they are eligible to drive with a certified instructor or someone holding a Class 1 license. Cox emphasizes his commitment to ensuring drivers are well-prepared: “I don’t believe in letting drivers leave without a solid understanding of the industry.”
Diverse Course Offerings
Cox provides various course options, including a 60-hour, 40-hour, and a 22-hour program. He also offers customized courses for employers. His journey in teaching began when his trainer at Safety First Driving School recognized his ability to connect with students and offered him a teaching role.
A Local Passionate About His Community
Cox has spent most of his life in Williams Lake, having grown up in Horsefly. He shares, “I love the area and my family is here. The Cariboo is special to me.” In his free time, he enjoys fishing, spending time outdoors, and working on his truck. So far, business has been promising, and he aspires to grow his driving school and possibly train other instructors.
