Burglary Hits Mexican National Soccer Team in Oakland

This week, the Mexican National Soccer Team faced a burglary incident in downtown Oakland.

In the early hours of Monday morning, the team discovered their truck had been broken into, resulting in the theft of equipment valued at thousands of dollars.

Nevertheless, enthusiastic fans gathered outside the Oakland Marriott City Center to catch a glimpse of their soccer heroes, including Brian Rodriguez. “Dude, I’m so happy, I got all I needed,” Rodriguez shared.

Rodriguez patiently waited for hours in the sun, mentioning that it was a small fraction of the time he has supported the team. “Since I was born,” he stated.

His persistence paid off as the team arrived back from practice, signing autographs and posing for photos. “It’s my first time ever seeing the players up close; it’s a special moment,” Rodriguez expressed. He hopes to complete his collection of autographs, having gathered signatures from about half of the team so far.

Rodriguez acknowledged the robbery but remained grateful that the players still took time for their fans. “I wasn’t really surprised about the burglary; it is Oakland after all,” he said, relieved that no one was harmed and only equipment was stolen.

The burglary occurred on 8th Street, just a few blocks from the hotel, sometime between late Sunday night and early Monday morning. Huy Nguyen, president of the Oakland Police Officers Association, noted that the team had taken precautions, securing the truck tightly against a wall. The thieves managed to cut the lock and stole several bags and equipment, including a $2,500 cleat steamer.

Nguyen remarked that while crime rates are decreasing, they are still not at acceptable levels. He emphasized the need for the city to recruit and retain more police officers to enhance public safety. “We need immediate changes to address these issues,” he asserted. Meanwhile, the team remains focused on their upcoming game against Japan, posting on X after the burglary, “Monday was all about work and staying focused on what’s ahead.” Rodriguez echoed this sentiment, encouraging the team to concentrate on winning the match.
