Livinston’s I-90 Closure Due to High Winds

On Tuesday, strong gusts resulted in the closure of I-90 in both directions through Livingston. Fortunately, truck drivers affected by the wind had a safe haven nearby.

Traffic Chaos

“The situation out there is chaotic. Just look at the traffic; it’s practically a parking lot,” states Moti Balyan.

Moti’s Unique One-Stop Shop

Moti runs a one-stop establishment just off I-90, which includes a diner, casino, gas station, and truck stop. Originally from Southern California, he’s only been managing the venue for about a month, and describes the area’s wind as unprecedented.

Wind Damage

“The wind has damaged our highway sign; it’s cracked. My gas station canopy has also sustained damage. The winds here are truly intense,” Moti explains.

Benefits for Business

Since relocating, Moti noted that the highway has been closed three times, which has proven advantageous for his business since his truck stop is the first option for eastbound travelers exiting I-90.

Safety First

According to chief meteorologist Mike Heard, winds were peaking at 60-70 mph on Tuesday. These conditions led to at least one semi-truck tipping over near Exit 333, further necessitating the highway closure. Following this incident, numerous vehicles became stuck in the resulting traffic jam.

Offering Assistance

Moti reported that by 2 p.m. on Tuesday, around 20 trucks were parked at his location, with many travelers also stopping to take refuge. “People are understandably concerned for their safety and health, so we encourage them not to drive in such dangerous weather,” he stated.

Always Ready to Help

Moti emphasized that regardless of current or future highway closures, his one-stop shop remains open and prepared to assist travelers. “When they’re frustrated and exhausted, we offer clean restrooms, showers, food, and even a casino. We’re equipped to cater to their needs and feel fortunate to serve them,” he concluded.
