Mack Trucks Introduces Granite MHD 4×2
New Truck Offering
On Wednesday, Mack Trucks unveiled a single-rear-axle variant of its Granite MHD (medium heavy duty) model, providing a Class 7 or Class 8 solution for clients looking for a lighter yet robust work truck.
Showcased at the Work Truck Show
Introduced at the National Truck Equipment Association’s Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, the MHD 4×2 complements the tandem rear-axle model that was rolled out in 2011. According to Curtis Dorwart, Mack’s vocational marketing product manager, orders for the MHD 4×2 are now being accepted.
Advantages of the MHD 4×2
“The MHD 4×2 is an excellent option for clients in need of a rugged truck to handle daily operations, with a lighter weight configuration that enhances return on investment,” said Dorwart. Being classified as a Class 7 truck exempts it from the 12% federal excise tax imposed on commercial purchases.
Target Markets
This model will enable Mack dealers to attract sales from contractors, public utilities, municipalities, and other sectors that do not require full Class 8 capabilities.
Power and Design Features
Powered by a Cummins ISL9 diesel engine delivering 345 horsepower and 1,150 pound-feet of torque, the MHD 4×2 represents the power, durability, and dependability associated with Mack trucks, according to Dorwart.
Enhanced Usability
The MHD’s clean back-of-cab design accommodates various body options, while a short bumper-to-tire distance allows for improved front-end swing clearance and tight cornering in confined spaces. The truck’s galvanized steel cab shares the same design as that of the heavy-duty Granites and is mounted on airbags and shocks for driver comfort. Its Cornerstone frame is manufactured from high-strength steel alloy and comes in four rail thicknesses ranging from 7 mm to 11.1 mm.
