Dash Cam Video of Truck Driver Cooking Curry: A False Claim
The viral dash cam video allegedly showing a truck driver cooking curry at 90 mph before crashing into vehicles and resulting in three fatalities on California’s I-10 is not authentic. According to a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the agency that investigated the incident and released the original footage, they had not seen the “cam 2” version. The CHP also noted discrepancies between the original video and the second one concerning the highway and landscape depicted.
Details of the Controversial Post
The misinformation surfaced in a video posted on X on October 22, 2025, which was captioned:
🚨WILD FOOTAGE: A second dash cam video reveals illegal immigrant truck driver cooking curry at 90 mph before killing 3 in California highway crash
Content of the X Post
The post features a 23-second clip showing a bearded male driver in a turban stirring curry on a hotplate while steering a truck on a multi-lane highway. This clip is followed by the dash cam footage released by the CHP, depicting a chain-reaction accident that resulted in three deaths on I-10 in San Bernardino on the same day. The upper-right corner of the video displays the mugshot of Jashanpreet Singh, the 21-year-old charged with vehicle manslaughter and driving under the influence.
CHP’s Response
Lt. Matt Gutierrez, a spokesperson for the CHP, reported that he reviewed the video upon Lead Stories’ request and confirmed it was not released by the agency. He expressed skepticism regarding its authenticity, pointing out that the freeway visible in the background is not the correct one where the crash took place.
Visual Discrepancies
According to Gutierrez, there are distinct differences in the type of stripe and asphalt color of the freeways shown in the two videos. Additionally, the landscape along the highways does not match.
Investigation of the Clip’s Origin
Lead Stories has been unable to trace the origins of the initial clip. However, a tool designed to detect AI-generated content did not classify the video as being created by artificial intelligence.
