Mynor Roberto Salguero’s Journey to Health
Mynor Roberto Salguero has spent considerable time driving an 18-wheeler, witnessing the miles accumulate while his health deteriorated.
From Military to Trucking
Many military veterans turn to trucking as a new career after serving, and Mynor’s story is no exception. After finishing his military service in the Marines in 2012, he began his trucking career the following year. He quickly adopted unhealthy eating habits, often opting for fast food during long hours on the road, leading to a dramatic weight gain of 100 pounds, bringing him to 305 pounds.
Health Challenges
The combination of weight gain and extended periods of inactivity led to high cholesterol and elevated blood pressure—a common struggle for 55% of Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) drivers.
A Change in Perspective
However, what troubled Mynor most wasn’t just his weight, but the concerned gazes of his four sons. He often shared stories of his Marine days, emphasizing his physical achievements, but sensed skepticism in their silence.
Taking Steps Towards Improvement
Mynor recognized that he was not the role model he aspired to be, prompting him to make changes. He started by committing to doing 100 burpees—challenging but a necessary first step. This effort blossomed into a regimen of pushups, pull-ups, and squats, exercises he could perform anywhere during his travels.
Reforming His Diet
His dietary habits also underwent a transformation. After Sunday dinners, Mynor began fasting until Tuesday evening. Once he achieved his target weight, he adopted a one-meal-a-day approach to maintain his progress. This journey required consistent discipline, a trait honed during his time in the Marines.
Results of Determination
Gradually, Mynor shed the excess weight, dropping from 305 to 205 pounds. Now, when his sons look at him, he sees confidence reflected in their eyes. His transformation is rooted in his dedication to the discipline he learned in the military rather than mere motivation.
