Truck Driver Sues Mark Sanchez Following Violent Incident
A 69-year-old truck driver, Perry Tole, has initiated legal action against former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez and his employer, Fox Corporation, in an Indiana state court after sustaining serious injuries in a confrontation that Sanchez is accused of starting.
The lawsuit, filed by Tole’s attorneys on Monday, seeks an unspecified amount in both actual and punitive damages, alongside legal fees. The complaint alleges Sanchez incited the altercation outside a downtown Indianapolis hotel, resulting in significant and long-lasting injuries, including “severe permanent disfigurement, loss of function,” and emotional distress.
According to police reports, Tole also inflicted stab wounds on Sanchez during the fight. Images circulating online depict Tole in a neck brace in a hospital, showing blood on his clothing and a severe cut on his face.
Fox Sports has chosen not to comment on the lawsuit. Sanchez’s legal team regarding his criminal case has also refrained from making any statements.
Tole’s attorneys, who requested a jury trial, had not responded to inquiries for comments regarding the lawsuit as of yet. Sanchez currently faces a felony battery charge, along with several misdemeanors, stemming from an incident described by prosecutors as an altercation over parking.
Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears remarked at a press conference, “We are literally talking about people fighting over a parking space, and it resulted in someone receiving just incredibly significant injuries.”
A police affidavit reveals that 38-year-old Sanchez, who showed signs of intoxication, confronted Tole while he was backing his truck into the hotel’s loading docks. Tole’s lawsuit states that Sanchez entered his truck without permission, then blocked and shoved him. In response, Tole sprayed Sanchez with pepper spray, after which Sanchez allegedly advanced, prompting Tole to brandish a knife for self-defense.
As a result of the altercation, Sanchez was hospitalized with stab wounds to his upper right torso. He was in Indianapolis for Fox’s coverage of the NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders. Sanchez enjoyed a decade-long NFL career before retiring in 2019, notably playing for the New York Jets, and later joined Fox Sports as a game analyst in 2021.
