Rescue of Abandoned Baby Boy
Thanks to an observant truck driver from Texas, a baby boy was saved from the side of Interstate 10 in Louisiana, where he had been alone for two days and nights.
The 1-year-old was discovered close to the spot where his 4-year-old brother was found deceased in a pond at a nearby welcome center. Their mother, Aaliyah Jack, 25, was apprehended approximately 350 miles away in Mississippi. She has been charged with failing to report a missing child.
Reginald Walton, a DHL Supply Chain driver, noticed what he initially thought was a discarded toy while driving on I-10. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was a baby moving. He stopped his truck and quickly called 911.
“I got out of my vehicle and walked back to where I thought I saw the child, and indeed, there was a little boy sitting there,” Walton stated during an interview with TV station KADN. “He smiled at me and then began to cry as he walked towards me. When he reached my hand, he stopped crying.”
The child had multiple bug bites and endured two days of severe weather linked to Hurricane Beryl, but he was otherwise in good condition.
“It really hurt my heart to know that someone would abandon a child,” Walton expressed in the interview. “I believe it was God that placed me there at the right time.”
Following the rescue, the child received treatment at a local hospital before being placed in protective custody. Authorities are continuing their investigation.
