Ohio Celebrates Truck Drivers with Billboards
COLUMBUS, Ohio — In celebration of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, the Ohio Trucking Association, in collaboration with Trucking Moves America Forward and various sponsors, has acquired six billboards throughout Ohio.
These billboards are expected to reach over 2 million people daily and aim to acknowledge the dedication of professional truck drivers, according to a news release.
Truck Driver Appreciation Week will take place from September 10 to 16.
The billboards will highlight two Ohio truck drivers: David Wolford of Continental Express Inc. and Clint McBee of GetGo Transportation Co. L.L.C. Wolford has been a truck driver for 19 years and was recognized as the 2022 Ohio Driver of the Year by the Ohio Trucking Association in March 2023.
During his 18-year career with Continental Express, Inc., Wolford has logged over 2.4 million accident-free miles. He also serves as a driver trainer, mentors new drivers, hosts a podcast discussing industry news and safety tips, and creates safety videos for the company’s YouTube channel.
McBee, who has over 20 years of experience with GetGo Transportation Co. L.L.C., is a military veteran and was the primary breadwinner for his family of five through trucking. He is employed by Tony Tomase, the Chair of the Ohio Trucking Association’s Board of Trustees.
Tomase identified the billboards as a means to enhance the trucking industry’s image and express gratitude to drivers. “Drivers are the unsung heroes; they provide essential goods to America,” he commented. “Despite the dangers, they commit to ensuring a safe journey for themselves and others.” The billboard campaign, supported by donations from Ohio Trucking Association members, constitutes the largest billboard purchase in Trucking Moves America Forward’s history, totaling over $40,000.
The billboards can be found at various locations across Ohio, including:
- Interstate 75 in Toledo
- Interstate 480 in Cleveland
- Interstate 75 in Dayton
- Interstate 75 in Cincinnati
- U.S. 33 in Columbus
- Elida Road in Lima
