The History Channel announced on Wednesday the return of “Ice Road Truckers” for season twelve, set to premiere on October 1 at 9:30 PM ET/PT, featuring some of the series’ most cherished truckers.
The series first aired in 2007 and spawned the spin-off “IRT: Deadliest Roads” in 2010. It hasn’t been on the air since 2017, but now “the brave truckers are back on the perilous icy roads and frozen lakes of Northern Canada, transporting essential supplies to remote communities,” according to the History Channel’s press release.
This revival will include fan favorites Todd Dewey and Lisa Kelly, as well as new drivers. Kelly, in particular, has been a long-time favorite among Overdrive readers, even featuring on the cover of Overdrive Magazine in the past and participating in interviews with The Voice of The American Trucker.
The show is set to reclaim its original essence. With “a shorter winter window than ever and limited time available, these drivers are risking everything to deliver a lifeline of goods while aiming for substantial paydays before opportunities vanish under their chained tires.”
Additionally, new truckers will join the ranks on Canada’s ice roads, eager to prove they can excel in this challenging environment.
Eli Lehrer, the executive vice president of programming at the History Channel, remarked, “The timing couldn’t be better to revive a cherished series that has engaged our audience for over a decade. We are thrilled to collaborate with our Canadian partners at Corus Entertainment for this new season, which embarks on a different storytelling approach that introduces fresh energy and challenges while honoring its legacy.”
