Introduction of a Compact Fire Truck
A newly acquired, compact fire truck is enhancing the capabilities of Cherry Valley firefighters by allowing them access to confined areas that larger trucks cannot reach, potentially reducing emergency response times.
Enhanced Maneuverability
Captain Tyler Walls noted that this smaller truck provides a tactical advantage during emergency situations in challenging locations where larger vehicles encounter difficulties.
Adaptive to Local Terrain
“Many locations here, such as gravel roads, are very narrow and challenging to navigate. The curves make it hard for the larger engines to turn,” Walls explained. “This new truck is extremely beneficial for accessing every area.”
Strategic Purchase
The fire department acquired this truck through an auction with the intent to alleviate wear on their existing fleet, which has seen significant use over time.
Versatile Deployment
The new vehicle has already been utilized in various emergency responses and is also available to assist other departments as needed. It is designed to help with medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, hazardous material responses, and rescue operations.
Equipment Upgrades
In addition to the truck, the city received jaws of life equipment through a Rural Community Grant from the state and acquired 14 SCBA bottles for breathing apparatuses. These upgrades will enable firefighters to enter buildings and respond to hazmat situations more effectively.
Future Plans
Looking ahead, Walls aims to pursue additional grants to acquire further equipment. His objective is to enhance the department’s ISO rating and increase staffing levels, ensuring improved service delivery. As per the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management, many fire departments in the state rely heavily on volunteer staff, highlighting the importance of new resources.
