ARLINGTON, Va. — With over 57 years of experience, Ron Baird is a seasoned professional truck driver. His journeys have taken him through mountains, deserts, snowstorms, and rainstorms, exposing him to a wide array of experiences on North American highways and beyond.

Throughout his extensive career, Baird has achieved an impressive record of 7.3 million miles without any accidents. “Safety is crucial,” Baird emphasized. “I’ve witnessed far too many accidents on the road.”

Acknowledgment of Excellence

In recognition of his commitment to safety, Baird has been honored with a place in the Safety Champions awards by Trucking Moves America Forward (TMAF). A recent press release stated that TMAF is expanding its “Meet The Truckers” features to highlight professional truck drivers who exemplify outstanding safety records.

Baird shares straightforward safety advice: “I always stay aware of other drivers around me and keep scanning the road ahead. Maintaining a safe following distance is essential.” Over the years, he has traveled through all 48 contiguous states and five provinces in Canada.

Adventures Beyond Borders

His trucking experiences even include international travels. “I’ve operated trucks in the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and Cuba during my time with the Navy Sea Bees. I consider myself a professional tourist,” he remarked.

Routes and Community Contributions

Baird’s favorite route is from Las Cruces, New Mexico, to Santa Rosa, New Mexico. He also appreciates the scenic drives in Utah and Colorado. “I find joy in helping others, whether it’s giving kids a ride in Make A Wish parades at truck shows or assisting motorists and fellow truck drivers with flat tires or vehicle troubles,” he added.

His commitment to safe driving has earned him multiple accolades, including the National Tank Truck Carriers Professional Tank Truck Driver of the Year award this year. “I believe any tank driver should strive for this award—it motivates you to improve your skills and benefits your company,” Baird stated.
