Melissa Allen: A Trailblazer in Trucking
Melissa Allen believes that obtaining her CDL was a wise decision, as the demand for truck drivers remains constant.
A Recognized Member of Women In Trucking
Recently, Melissa was honored as the April Member of the Month by Women In Trucking.
A Journey Through Service
She has dedicated the past four years of her life as an over-the-road truck driver, but her contributions extend beyond driving. Raised in the impoverished “Smoketown” area of Louisville, Kentucky, Melissa sought to make a difference in the world as soon as she left her hometown.
From Military Service to Trucking
After spending several years in the Army Reserve, Melissa shifted to active duty and served overseas, where she enhanced communication methods regarding casualties. Upon returning to the U.S., she pursued further education and launched her own web design business, developing websites for various companies for seven years before earning her CDL. This career shift was prompted by economic challenges, as she noted, “The economy forced me to find a recession-proof career.”
Innovating in the Trucking Industry
Now driving professionally for Schneider, Melissa’s endeavors go beyond just driving. Frustrated by the issue of fuel nozzles slipping from tanks during refueling, she discovered that many other drivers faced the same problem. In response, she invented a fueling brace designed to secure the nozzle during use and has initiated the patent process for her creation, which is compatible with the Freightliner Cascadia Evolution. More details about her invention can be found at www.FuelingBrace.com.
Encouraging Women to Make a Difference
Melissa encourages women not only to live their lives fully but also to make a positive impact on their communities.
