Finding love can be challenging, particularly for truck drivers. Long hauls make it difficult to nurture personal relationships. The Dutch initiative “Trucker zoekt Vlam” aims to help these professional drivers discover romance.
“Trucker zoekt Vlam,” which translates to “trucker looking for a flame,” is a new online program from the Netherlands. Its concept closely resembles the popular TV show “Farmer Wants a Wife.” Initially, the truck drivers are introduced, and then anyone interested can reach out to them. The first meeting occurs inside the truck cab, followed by regular dates, like trips to the zoo, cinema, walks, or dinners.
The series culminates in a special “License plate ceremony,” where the trucker reveals a plate with the name of the person who has captured their heart.
Profiles of Participants
Seven drivers and one female trucker are part of the program, all intent on finding lasting love. “Trucker zoekt Vlam” features individuals from various regions in the Netherlands, making them relatable to many viewers. The first season introduces 29-year-old Chris, who runs a transport business with his brother; 23-year-old Dennis, an international driver across Europe; and 26-year-old Peter, who embarks on five-day trips and enjoys life on the road. Among the men is 26-year-old Hanneke, who has been on international routes for seven years and is only home on weekends. She seeks a calm partner who can accept her frequent absences.
A Distinct Program
Accompanying the truckers in their search for love is journalist Gwen van Poorten, known for hosting similar shows. As she points out, “This isn’t just any show. It features individuals leading unique, often nomadic lifestyles.”
“Being with a truck driver means you must embrace solitude. Truckers spend extended periods on the road, and they cherish having someone waiting for them at home. While the days are still bright, winter darkness will soon return. What we aim to do is help them find love. It’s the perfect Christmas gift for them,” the presenter shared in an interview with the ad.nl portal.
“Trucker zoekt Vlam” will air online, which the creators believe is a superior option compared to traditional television. The more relaxed format is intended to reduce stress for the truckers and their companions, allowing for more genuine interactions. Additionally, anyone interested in winning a driver’s heart can apply via email, making the process more accessible. The creators are optimistic about a swift influx of applications.
