Challenges in the Truck Equipment Industry

According to the North American Truck Equipment Industry Outlook and Strategy Report, companies are continually encountering new challenges and pressures in the ever-evolving truck equipment sector, suggesting that this is just the beginning of significant changes.

Recent Study and Insights

The National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) has commissioned Acclaro Growth Partners from Washington, D.C., to conduct a detailed study aimed at helping NTEA members and industry professionals comprehend the factors that are influencing and reshaping the industry, as well as the implications for truck equipment businesses.

Future Uncertainty

Jim Carney, executive director of NTEA, emphasized that while the report does not make future predictions, it clearly states that the truck equipment industry is undergoing significant structural transformations, which will likely lead to considerable changes. “Time alone will tell where the industry will be in five or ten years,” he noted.

Key Factors Impacting the Industry

The report identifies several key factors that are shaping the industry:

  • Technological advancements are revolutionizing products, services, and processes, with chassis manufacturers at the forefront.
  • Customers of varying sizes are influencing changes within the truck equipment market.
  • Globalization is altering the landscape by affecting fuel and raw material costs, impacting operating expenses and product pricing.
  • The consolidation of companies within the supply chain is blurring the lines between truck equipment manufacturers and distributors.
  • Government regulations aimed at enhancing truck safety, fuel efficiency, and environmental sustainability are placing significant compliance pressures on both manufacturers and distributors.

Ordering the Report

The report is available for purchase at $149 for NTEA members and $299 for non-members through the “Storefront” section of www.ntea.com.

Free Session for Early Purchasers

Anyone who buys the report by December 28, 2007, will receive a complimentary pass to the “Surviving & Thriving: Trends Reshaping the Truck Equipment Industry” session. This special event will be held during the 44th Annual NTEA Convention and The Work Truck Show, occurring from February 25-28, 2008, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. Scheduled for February 25, this session will provide an overview of the report’s findings.

About NTEA

Founded in 1964, the NTEA is the prominent association advocating for the $131 billion work truck and trailer industry. The association serves over 1,700 companies that are involved in manufacturing, distributing, installing, selling, and repairing commercial trucks, truck bodies, truck equipment, trailers, and accessories. It also includes buyers of work trucks and major commercial truck chassis manufacturers. NTEA offers extensive technical information, education, member programs and services, and organizes The Work Truck Show.
