The World’s Oldest Trucker: A 90-Year Journey
At the age of 90, Doyle Archer continues his life on the road, boasting an impressive 60-year career in long-haul trucking, with no plans to retire.
A Guinness World Record Holder
Doyle was honored earlier this year as the Guinness World Record holder for the oldest male truck driver. Over his six decades behind the wheel, he has accumulated an astonishing 5.5 million miles. He achieved his record at the age of 90 years and 55 days in February.
No Plans for Retirement
“I do not plan to retire any time soon,” Doyle expressed to Guinness World Records. “As long as my health is good, I will keep driving. Retiring isn’t a word I use. I truly enjoy my work.”
A Safe Driving Achievement
Doyle recently received a “Million Mile Safe Driver” award, having transported goods safely for one million miles without any incidents at Coomes Inc., his employer for the last 20 years, based in Phillipsburg, Kansas.

From Farming to Trucking
Doyle’s journey began on his family’s farm in Kansas, where he pursued a degree in agriculture. He later became a partner in a lumber and grain business, but had to shift his career due to asthma in 1961. Instead of leaving the industry behind entirely, he transitioned to transporting loads that generated less dust.
Family and Hobbies
Doyle never anticipated becoming the world’s oldest trucker, but he is grateful to continue his passion for driving. When he’s not on the road, he enjoys spending time with his wife of 70 years, Lois, along with their nine children, 25 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. Additionally, he has a keen interest in antique cars and John Wayne films.
