Forrest Rogers Memorial at Grandview Speedway
This Saturday night, Grandview Speedway will host the prestigious Forrest Rogers Memorial, a renowned Modified race featuring a $10,000 prize for the winner. This event is one of the highlight races on the one-third-mile high-banked track’s summer schedule.
A Tribute to Forrest Rogers
Since 1971, the management of Grandview Speedway has commemorated Forrest Rogers, who envisioned creating a racetrack. With assistance from his son Bruce and family, they realized this dream, leading to the establishment of what is now known as Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pennsylvania.
Significance of the Memorial Race
The Forrest Rogers Memorial is deeply meaningful to many, particularly to the Rogers family, who still manages the speedway. This year marks the 63rd season of the track, which has remained a family-owned operation with the third and fourth generations actively involved.
Historical Background
The event serves as an annual celebration for the Speedway, coinciding with its opening weekend in August 1963. To honor the track’s first anniversary, Forrest Rogers hosted the initial extra distance race in 1964, won by Marty Acker.
Race Evolution
Initially, the Small Block Modifieds race offered a $500 prize, won by Eddie Mumford, who secured consecutive victories in the early years. Over time, the champion’s payout has escalated, reaching the current substantial amount of $10,000, an award won by last year’s champion Ryan Watt.
A Legacy of Champions
Many drivers have left their mark in this distinguished event, from multiple winners in the 1970s, such as Mike Geiser, to the more recent dominance of Craig Von Dohren. He boasts an impressive ten victories in the Memorial, making him the all-time winner of the event.
