The latest edition of Overdrive Radio presents our new Partners in Business comprehensive guide for owner-operator careers. For over twenty years, Overdrive’s Partners in Business, co-produced with ATBS, has been dedicated to training and providing ongoing business education for owner-operators. The 2025 update of PIB reimagines the format with the modern trucker in mind, offering a new online structure that replaces the previous 100-page book with updated content accessible on various devices.
Transitioning from a single-download format, we now provide an online content library that can be easily accessed via smartphones, tablets, laptops, or desktop computers.

The restructuring upholds the PIB mission to equip owner-operators with effective tactics and strategies for long-term success. It is organized into eight categories that trace the owner’s journey from the startup phase to retirement:
The “Starting Line” section covers various topics, including business structure decisions, individual motivations, goal setting, freight niche selection, and the options for leasing to a motor carrier. The “Equipment and Maintenance” section draws on resources from Overdrive and ATBS to provide insights into acquiring optimal equipment, maintenance practices, and essential repair techniques.
In the “Business Management” category, we provide valuable information on tracking costs, revenue, profits, and creating profit and loss statements, in addition to methods for personal financial planning to enhance business health. The other five sections address more specific aspects of the trucking business, including “Safety and Compliance,” various types of insurance, “Taxes,” “Independence and Growth” for aspiring fleet owners, and the “Finish Line,” which focuses on retirement planning and early savings strategies.
All the content is designed to assist owner-operators in maximizing the rewards from their hard work. This aligns with the title of Part 2 of Overdrive 2024 Trucker of the Year Alan Kitzhaber’s “Plan for Better Business,” released alongside our announcement regarding his recognition in January.
Additionally, our podcast features MATS-preview discussions including interviews with Jamie Hagen, Hotels4Truckers.com owner Dan Fuller, and trucker-songwriter Tony Justice. Stay tuned for extensive coverage leading up to MATS. Don’t forget to check out the new PIB here.
As highlighted in the podcast, you can register for ATBS’s live update on March 25 to analyze the 2024 owner-operator income trends.
