Viral Protest Supporter Indicted
A man who gained attention after being seen on live television allegedly delivering a truck full of face shields for protesters during recent demonstrations in Los Angeles was indicted on Wednesday.
Charges Filed Against Alejandro Orellana
Alejandro Orellana, 29, faces charges of conspiracy to aid and abet civil disorders.
Details of the Incident
According to federal prosecutors, Orellana joined others on June 9 to load his Ford F-150 pickup truck with face shields, masks, water bottles, and other supplies amidst ongoing anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles. He subsequently delivered these items to a gathering of protesters, as reported by the Justice Department.
U.S. Attorney’s Statement
U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli emphasized the initiative to identify and apprehend individuals involved in funding and organizing the riots during a September 12 interview with Fox News. He described the protests as well-coordinated and financially supported, indicating a need to understand the organization’s origins.
Support for Orellana
Orellana is reportedly linked to a group called CENTRO CSO, which is raising funds for his legal defense and has organized a protest scheduled for Thursday to advocate for the dismissal of charges against him. The group expressed on Instagram, “Orellana is facing 5 years for protesting ICE Raids; protesting is not a crime! Alejandro did nothing wrong!”
Local Charges Related to Protests
In the wake of the protests against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), over 40 individuals have been charged with various offenses related to the violent riots that erupted last month. These protests were prompted by the Trump administration’s efforts to deport criminal illegal immigrants.
Continued Unrest in Los Angeles
The situation in and around Los Angeles remains tense as demonstrations against ICE actions continue, potentially leading to further legal actions against those involved.
