Red Sox Equipment Truck Departs for Spring Training
BOSTON — The Red Sox’s equipment truck is set to leave Boston on Monday, heading to the team’s spring training base at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida.
This truck will undertake a journey of 1,480 miles from Fenway Park to Florida. Before embarking on the trip south, it will make a stop at Polar Park in Worcester, where WooSox mascots and enthusiastic fans will gather to send it off.
“I’m just so excited for baseball season! I go to BU and live nearby, so I had to come see the start of the season,” said fan Ethan Pott, reflecting the excitement in the air.
The equipment truck, departing from Van Ness Street at Fenway Park, will be escorted by a flat-bed truck featuring Wally the Green Monster, his sister Tessie, and Fenway Ambassadors, who will be tossing soft Red Sox baseballs to cheering fans.
“This is one of the greatest days of the year. It signifies the end of winter, regardless of what the groundhog predicts. There’s always hope for a great season ahead, and many die-hard fans come out,” remarked Brian Reynolds, another dedicated supporter.
Milford native Al Hartz will drive the 53-foot truck for the 28th consecutive year. The truck is loaded with an impressive array of equipment, which includes:
- 20,400 baseballs
- 1,100 bats
- 200 batting gloves
- 200 batting helmets
- 320 batting practice tops
- 160 white game jerseys
- 300 pairs of pants
- 400 T-shirts
- 400 pairs of socks
- 20 cases of bubble gum
- 60 cases of sunflower seeds
Truck Day has been a cherished tradition for the Red Sox since 2003, marking the unofficial beginning of Spring Training season.
