Insurance Provider Enhances Motor Truck Cargo Coverage
MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio, April 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Progressive Insurance has introduced Cargo Plus, a new endorsement that broadens the Motor Truck Cargo coverage available to for-hire truckers and other qualifying customers.
Motor Truck Cargo coverage provides protection when a trucker is legally responsible for damage to goods in their exclusive custody and control. The newly launched Cargo Plus endorsement enhances this coverage by including protections against issues such as moisture, rust, corrosion, driver mistakes, and temperature fluctuations for refrigerated loads for customers who also purchase Refrigeration Breakdown coverage.
The Cargo Plus endorsement is automatically available to new policies with Motor Truck Cargo coverage from Progressive. Current customers holding Motor Truck Cargo or Refrigeration Breakdown policies can instantly take advantage of the enhanced protection offered by Cargo Plus before their policy renewal.
With the introduction of Cargo Plus, Progressive aims to provide for-hire truckers with increased confidence in their coverage as they transport goods. This insurance is crucial for truckers as it protects the items they are delivering, influencing their agreements with brokers and shippers.
“Being the #1 truck insurer in America*, we are committed to delivering solutions tailored to our truck customer base. We continuously assess opportunities to upgrade our offerings in order to be a preferred choice for truck insurance, and the Cargo Plus endorsement reflects that commitment,” said Peter Niro, Truck Product Development Manager at Progressive. “Our trucking clients depend on Progressive Commercial for comprehensive insurance options, competitive rates, and exceptional service. The Cargo Plus endorsement enhances our ability to meet the needs of our trucking clientele.”
As of today, April 16, eligible Progressive customers across 42 states can take advantage of the new Cargo Plus coverage, including states such as AK, AL, AR, AZ, CO, and FL, among others. Progressive anticipates offering the Cargo Plus endorsement in 49 states by May 21, 2025, and aims for availability in all states by the end of 2025, though Refrigeration Breakdown coverage will not be available in CA and FL.
