Amazon India’s Health Initiative for Truck Drivers
Amazon India has unveiled ‘Sushruta’, a health and wellness initiative designed specifically for truck drivers.
The company collaborates with over 350 trucking partners, employing thousands of drivers who spend substantial amounts of time on the road. This initiative focuses on addressing the health requirements of these drivers while also promoting awareness of long-term health habits that will benefit both the drivers and their families. Various health camps will be held in locations such as Bengaluru, Manesar (Haryana), and across the country, providing screenings for more than 70 health parameters.
“The launch of this program has been made possible in partnership with NGOs like Premansh Foundation, Anchal Health Centre, and DocOnline. The first health camp in Bengaluru in January 2024, along with the recent event in Manesar, saw remarkable attendance and positive feedback from truck drivers,” the announcement states.
According to Arun Kumar Singh, director of Amazon Transportation Services in India, “At Amazon, we understand the challenges that truck drivers encounter, often leading to neglected health due to prolonged hours on the road. The ‘Sushruta’ program aims to tackle these issues and promote the well-being of drivers. We genuinely hope this initiative brings a positive impact to the lives of truck drivers and their families.”
The Sushruta program includes various screenings such as blood tests, eye exams, and dental evaluations to detect any health issues among drivers. Awareness campaigns and informational sessions are also part of the program, focusing on encouraging healthy lifestyles for truck drivers and their families. Each driver receives a referral card and health report, which allows access to teleconsultation services for them and up to three family members, as well as entry to Anchal Health Centre and associated government hospitals for annual checkups.
Thipparaju G, a truck driver affiliated with Amazon’s trucking partner from Bengaluru, expressed his gratitude, stating, “I appreciate Amazon for initiatives like Sushruta. Being frequently on the move, it’s comforting to know that Amazon values our health and organizes these camps for our benefit.”
In 2022, Amazon, in collaboration with Lenskart, piloted a similar program by hosting an eye check-up camp. This 25-day initiative took place across fulfillment and sorting centers in Delhi NCR, aiming to improve eye care availability for truck drivers and support staff. The project assessed over 1,700 individuals and distributed more than 529 spectacles to those in need. Following the successful pilot, Amazon has broadened the health camp offerings and scope of medical checkups under the ‘Sushruta’ initiative this year.
