Meet Our March FIT Driver of the Month: Eric Dawson
We are thrilled to announce Eric Dawson as our FIT Driver of the Month for March. With over 26 years of experience in over-the-road driving, including time as a Teamster driver, Eric is currently running Cozy Cruzin Transport LLC. Throughout his career, he has discovered that safety extends far beyond mere policies and regulations.
As a NASM-certified personal trainer and digital creator, Eric focuses on promoting holistic safety within the industry rather than from an office setting. Every day, he inspires fellow transportation professionals to prioritize self-care, shifting the dialogue from traditional safety measures to a more comprehensive approach to well-being.
Understanding Safety Through Self-Care
Eric’s motto is clear: “Safety begins with self-care.” He emphasizes that aspects such as physical health, mental clarity, emotional stability, and informed choices are crucial for safe driving, both on the road and in daily life.
His practical advice stems from his own experiences, effectively linking corporate safety guidelines with the everyday realities drivers encounter. Eric aims to empower drivers to safeguard their health and redefine what true safety means from their perspective.
Nutrition and Self-Care
March is National Nutrition Month, making it an ideal moment to embrace self-care. While tomorrow marks the beginning of a new month, maintaining healthy eating habits is essential every day. Through his YouTube channel, Cozy Trucker, Eric shares advice on smart food choices, especially when fueling up on the road.
He encourages drivers to stock their mini-fridges with nutritious options like fresh fruits, steamable vegetables, Greek yogurt, and healthy home-cooked meals. Over time, Eric has disciplined himself to avoid overeating by practicing daily intermittent fasting, finding that this method, accompanied by a nutritious dinner, suits him best.
Hydration and Sustainable Choices
To maintain energy levels, Eric advocates for drinking plenty of water, essential for keeping the body’s “battery” charged. He believes that while an ideal diet may not be necessary, making incremental changes in nutrition can significantly enhance focus, mood, and overall health, both on and off the road.
Ultimately, as Eric reiterates, “Safety begins with self-care.”
