Historic Background
The legacy of USAC Non-Wing Sprints in the region dates back to 1956 when Oley, PA driver Tommy Hinnershitz claimed the first three USAC Sprint victories at the Berks County Reading Fairgrounds. Many legends such as Johnny Thomson, A.J. Foyt, and Bobby Unser have also triumphed at this historic location. However, the last USAC race at the Reading Fairgrounds took place on April 14, 1979, marking the end of an era.
The Return of the Eastern Storm
The USAC Non-Wing Sprints made a comeback in 2007, spearheaded by Grandview Speedway’s Bruce Rogers and Event Promoter Bob Miller. A packed crowd witnessed Levi Jones clinch the first event under the Eastern Storm banner that kicked off the 2007 Thunder on the Hill Racing Series. Since then, Grandview has hosted the Eastern Storm’s opening event.
Current Champions and Incentives
Notable drivers like Brady Bacon, Bryan Clauson, and Chris Windom have joined Levi Jones as winners of the Eastern Storm. This year’s Eastern Storm will feature a total point fund of $10,000 sponsored by Levan Machine and Truck Equipment, aiming to attract attention and excitement to the series.
