Truck Driver Praises Taylor Swift’s Transformative Generosity
Mike Scherkenbach, a truck driver for Taylor Swift’s tours, shared insights into the singer’s remarkably generous nature, describing it as “life-changing” for her crew members.
Scherkenbach, who operates the concert transportation company Shomotion and is currently assisting with Swift’s ‘Eras’ tour, recently revealed that he was among numerous crew members who received substantial bonuses of $100,000 (£77,000) each. This information came to light earlier this week.
In total, Taylor Swift distributed over $55 million (£43 million) in bonuses to her tour crew, recognizing their hard work and dedication. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Scherkenbach explained how Swift’s generosity significantly impacts the lives of her employees.
“The amount she is giving is life-changing for these individuals,” Scherkenbach noted. “Many of these drivers do not own homes, and a sum like this allows them to make a down payment. That’s what fills me with joy. Her generosity is a game changer for them.”
Scherkenbach also addressed the negative remarks circulating on social media regarding the bonuses, specifically those comparing Swift’s generosity to her overall wealth. He stated, “The comments that disturb me most are the ones equating her contributions to her net worth. That’s irrelevant. Many wealthy individuals choose not to share any of their riches. We collaborate with various affluent people, but what she does is not typical.”
Generally, performers of Swift’s stature tend to give bonuses in the range of $5,000 to $10,000, making her level of generosity particularly outstanding. Beyond the financial gifts, Scherkenbach expressed his appreciation for Swift’s recognition of her drivers by including their names in the credits of her ‘Reputation’ documentary. “In the Netflix documentary for the last tour, she acknowledged my drivers in the credits. That reflects her character,” he said.
After completing her US tour dates, Swift plans to tour globally next year, with performances scheduled across Europe, Asia, and Australia. The Europe and UK leg of the tour will begin in Paris on May 9, 2024, concluding in London on August 17, 2024. Swift has also teased upcoming music, hinting at ‘Reputation (Taylor’s Version)’ with a preview of ‘Delicate (Taylor’s Version)’ featured in the latest season of The Summer I Turned Pretty, although an official announcement for the album is still pending.
