Cummins Unveils New Turbo Diesel Engine for 2025 Ram Heavy Duty Pickup

Cummins, in collaboration with Ram Heavy Duty, has introduced its 2025 6.7-liter Turbo Diesel Pickup engine system. The partnership with Stellantis has also been extended, ensuring support for the Ram brand until 2030. This ongoing collaboration highlights a commitment to innovation, particularly appealing to hotshot trucking owner-operators.

Powertrain Details

The advanced 6.7-liter Turbo Diesel engine and powertrain will be available in the newly announced 2025 Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty Pickups, as well as the Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 cab-and-chassis models.

Improved Performance and Efficiency

According to Jane Beaman, Cummins’ global on-highway and pickup vice president, the latest 6.7L Turbo Diesel engine enhances power, efficiency, serviceability, and drivability, making it the most desirable option in the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty lineup.

Performance Specifications

This 6.7-liter engine is built for reliability and durability and sets new standards in performance and efficiency. It boasts impressive output ratings of 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque for pickups, and 360 hp and 800 lb-ft for cab and chassis vehicles. The new diesel is paired with an innovative 8-speed transmission, offering optimal power, responsiveness, and drivability.

Enhanced Features for Versatility

Jennifer Rager, Cummins’ general manager for pickup business, emphasized that whether towing heavy work loads or managing weekend hauls, the 6.7L Turbo Diesel is engineered for any task. The new technologies incorporated address performance expectations while meeting lower emissions standards. This partnership with the Ram Brand aims to deliver the best diesel pickup engine on the market.

Performance Gains Across Models

All 2025 Ram Heavy Duty models equipped with the Cummins engine will experience noticeable improvements in acceleration and towing capacity. Enhanced overall truck performance includes quicker 0-60 mph times and improved towing responsiveness, all while minimizing noise and vibration with advanced valve train technologies.

Service Improvements and Technology Integration

Serviceability is also enhanced, allowing software updates directly from inside the truck for added convenience. The positioning of the oil and fuel filters facilitates maintenance, while advanced glow plug technology improves cold-start management, decreasing wait times even in severe weather conditions.
