Truck Driver’s Lucky Break at Wawa
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (DC News Now) — With just a quick stop at Wawa and a $5 investment, one truck driver hit the jackpot, winning $50,000.
About the Winner
Clayton Webb, a long-haul trucker from North Carolina, frequently delivers across nine states and enjoys trying his luck with lottery games during his travels.
The Winning Moment
On July 1, after completing a delivery in Silver Spring, he spent the night in College Park. While there, Webb decided to visit a nearby Wawa store at 10050 Baltimore Ave. to play the lottery.
Striking Gold
He invested $5 in a lottery vending machine, opting for the FAST PLAY Double Win game. When he checked his ticket, he was astonished to find that he had won $50,000.
Feeling Lucky
“I folded it [the ticket] and put it in my pocket,” Webb recounted to Maryland Lottery officials the following day when claiming his prize. “No need to play any more after that.”
Record-Breaking Win
This win marks Webb’s highest lottery victory, surpassing a previous $5,000 prize in North Carolina and a $1,000 win in Tennessee. When asked which state has the best lottery, he confidently replied, “Well that’s a no brainer. Maryland!”
Future Plans
After claiming his incredible win, Webb embarked on a nine-hour journey back to North Carolina. He intends to use part of his winnings to replace the engine of his lawn mower that recently broke down. “When I’m not driving a truck, I’m on my tractor,” he noted.
Recognition for Wawa
For facilitating this major win, the Wawa store on Baltimore Avenue will receive a $500 bonus.
