Truck Driver Confesses to Attempted Murder of Actress
The driver involved in the injury of television and film actress Ahona Rahman Lucky has admitted to attempting to kill her, claiming it was “self-defense” following the accident with her vehicle.
Sumon Mia, 27, confessed during his court appearance that he was trying to avoid being arrested or attacked by a mob when Ahona approached his truck.
His confession was documented by Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Md Noman after he was presented by Sub-inspector Humayun Kabir from the Uttara Police Station, who is also the investigation officer.
After recording Sumon’s statement, the court ordered his transfer to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.
Sumon was apprehended in Ashulia at approximately 4:30am on Saturday, based on information from his 16-year-old assistant, who was detained in Uttara the night before.
The assistant, Md Rumon, provided a confession to another magistrate on Saturday and was subsequently incarcerated.
On Wednesday, Ahona and her cousin were returning home from Old Dhaka around 4am when a truck loaded with sand collided with her car in Uttara sector-7. After the accident, Ahona confronted the truck driver. In the ensuing conflict, the driver attempted to flee while Ahona tried to climb onto the vehicle. He accelerated with her hanging on the door, swerving at high speed for about one kilometer, leading to her severe injuries when the truck overturned in Uttara sector-12.
